Before we get to that Magpul iPhone case… Many of us know Magpul as the company that revolutionized the rifle magazine market over the past decade plus. They make great polymer magazines that just work, provide a great grip, feel good in the hand, and are very reasonably priced.
Plus they’ve started introducing even more magazine options, like Glock handgun magazines, drum rifle magazines, etc, all at a good price for a solid product.
A bold statement, but one I feel very comfortable making after relying on this product for years.
Why Does An iPhone Case Matter So Much Anyway?
Well, let’s see. Your “phone” – rather, your smartphone – is not so much a phone anymore. For me, that’s the least used “app” on my smartphone. The near-magical $800 computer you carry around in your pocket is your lifeline to the outside world, to friends and family… to help, should you need it.
Your “phone” is a critical part of your daily everyday carry. That’s why I strongly encourage getting a good, solid case for it, as well as bringing along a charger and charging cable. Inexpensive items that easily help mitigate common issues.
How Does The Magpul iPhone Case Compare With Other iPhone Cases?
Years ago, I was looking for a good phone case for my new iPhone 4. I tried many options, most of them less than impressive.
Most cases I tried were poorly engineered (as far as actual protection of the device and grip quality), and felt overpriced considering the value offered. Solid-built alternatives like OtterBox are too bulky to be usable day to day.
Does It Actually Protect Your iPhone?
Well, it certainly seems to. As one would expect from a Magpul product.
The various iterations of Magpul cases over the past few years might have protected my iPhone 4, iPhone 5, and iPhone 6s Plus through more drops on concrete than I care to admit to. Hypothetically speaking, of course lol.
Sure, you can get an Otterbox, which is like putting baby bumpers on your phone. But the very low profile Magpul case does and amazing job of protecting your phone without looking like something that’s meant for your toddler.
Word to the wise: Take care of your gear and realize that the $800 near-magical computer in your pocket is a very expensive and somewhat fragile device. It’s worth some protection.
And on that note, please understand a great case like this is like a seatbelt… it’s intended to mitigate risk of damage from accidental drops, scrapes, etc. If you intentionally drop your phone to see how good your case is, you might want to re-evaluate your understanding of basic risk assessment
How’s The Grip Quality?
This is one area the Magpul case really shines. Most cases feel rather slick to the touch, leaving you with a slippery, unsure grip.
The Magpul case feels smooth and comfortable to the touch, but through some proprietary materials technology magic, it offers excellent grip on the device.
How Does The Magpul iPhone Case Look In Person?
Well, it looks exactly like something Magpul would produce for your iPhone. To me, it looks great.
My beautiful wife doesn’t care for it… she feels it looks too industrial. Me, I think the Magpul case has an industrial, elegant beauty to it. All in the perspective, isn’t it.
The Magpul iPhone case comes in a dozen colors… tho personally I recommend their black and OD Green. Magpul clearly has a military history and culture, something rather evident in the case colors they offer. They make an excellent OD Green, and a great black. But at least in my opinion, their other colors look really, really bad (garish) lol. Try the OD Green or the black.
Summary and Recommendations
Coming in at roughly $15 on Amazon, this iPhone case is basically a ridiculous no-brainer.
Do yourself a favor and get this case, you won’t go back to the shiny, pretty, overpriced ones (or the bulky and overpriced ones).
